THE BIG QUESTIONS

WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL TITLE?

Owner/Operator of SheCan Consulting

WHAT DO YOU DO ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS?

I am a full-time volunteer working in Indonesia as an Organization Development Adviser with EQWIP HUBS through Canada World Youth. In my spare time, I am working on developing my business and preparing for its launch in the New Year. As of February 1, 2019, I will only be working on my business.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO DO WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD AND WHAT CHANGED?

I have always wanted to be a businesswoman who climbed the corporate ladder, had a big corner office and a fancy title. What has changed? My motivation. I'm not longer doing it for the corner office or for a fancy title. I am doing it to be an example for female entrepreneurs, to help create more opportunities for women in business, and to play a role in eliminating gender gaps.

WHAT ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU HAVE?

I have a Degree in Human Resource Management & Leadership, a Post Diploma Degree in Marketing Communications and General Business, and I recently completed a Master's in Global Management across three continents.

WHAT’S THE BEST CAREER ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

You'll never know if you don't ask.

WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY?

My mother is my key role model because if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be the woman that I am today. Other role models include a combination of my friends, family, and friends mothers. I am fortunate to be surrounded by so many fierce, kind, and ambitious women. Each one of them inspires me differently.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR CURRENT WORKING ENVIRONMENT?

The people!

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT YOUR DAILY WORK ROUTINE IF YOU COULD?

Less screen time!

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF PROFESSIONALLY IN FIVE YEARS’ TIME?

Operating SheCan Consulting with a team of like minded women, public speaking to young female entrepreneurs about their opportunities, and leading events and workshops to help women achieve their goals.

DO YOU FEEL YOU CAN BE THE SAME PERSON AT WORK AND IN PRIVATE?

Absolutely, I think it is important to be authentic. However, work does require a level of professionalism that home does not.

WHERE AND IN WHAT ROLES ARE WOMEN IN THE LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE AT YOUR COMPANY?

At the moment, it’s just me in a consulting and coaching role.

DOES DIVERSITY MATTER TO YOU?

Yes, strength lies in differences.

HOW GOOD IS YOUR WORK LIFE BALANCE?

I always make an effort to keep a solid work/life balance. Sometimes I have to focus on my time management skills to do so, but I believe it’s a key contributor to sustainable success.

WHAT QUALITIES DOES BEING IN YOUR ROLE NECESSITATE?

Discipline, determination, and passion.

ANY FINAL COMMENTS?

You don't have to be considered successful in business or well known before you can make an effort to inspire.
