THE BIG QUESTIONS

WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL TITLE?

Makeup Artist.

WHAT DO YOU DO ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS?

Depending on the day, it’s either serving the life appendages or going out to freelance meetings, doing trials and having correspondence with clients.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO DO WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD AND WHAT CHANGED?

I wanted to be a makeup artist. From a young age my mum always said everything in Casualty was makeup or tomato ketchup and that’s what I wanted to do, make people believe! Nothing changed, I decided what I wanted to do and I did it.

WHAT ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU HAVE?

A levels in Art, English Lit & Psychology and qualifications in media makeup and special effects.

WHAT’S THE BEST CAREER ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

Find something that you love and your job won’t feel like a chore.

WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY?

My Mum. She gave up a lot for me and to give me the best chance possible and because of that it made me want to do exactly what I dreamed of doing and being.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR CURRENT WORKING ENVIRONMENT?

The feeling, I never come home from a day at “work” feeling down. Making someone feel beautiful is the best reward!

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT YOUR DAILY WORK ROUTINE IF YOU COULD?

Nothing.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF PROFESSIONALLY IN FIVE YEARS’ TIME?

Where I am but 5 years older. I’ve done all the things I wanted to do with this career path - worked at my dream company, worked on films and tv. Now I’m happy to just make people feel good about themselves and be part of their special moment.

DO YOU FEEL YOU CAN BE THE SAME PERSON AT WORK AND IN PRIVATE?

Absolutely. I am me. I adapt to the situation I’m in, but I’ll always stay true to who I am.

HOW ARE YOU NAVIGATING THE TRIALS, TRIUMPHS, TANTRUMS AND TRIBULATIONS OF PARENTHOOD?

I like to call it navigating but it’s mostly winging my way. There’s so many highs and lows, it’s an absolutely minefield out here but we’re all just trying to do our best and that’s all we can ask of ourselves.

DOES DIVERSITY MATTER TO YOU?

Of course, being diverse for me means I open myself up to working with anyone and everyone. Diversity is essential in all aspects of the working world.

HOW GOOD IS YOUR WORK LIFE BALANCE?

Freelancing I can pick and choose my hours/jobs so I make sure work fits around us as a family.

WHAT QUALITIES DOES BEING IN YOUR ROLE NECESSITATE?

Honest, understanding and reliable.

ANY FINAL COMMENTS?

Women can and should be allowed to be whatever they want to be.
