She’s Not Sorry

THE BIG QUESTIONS

WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL TITLE?

Co-Creator of She’s Not Sorry (and by day I go by Community & Content Manager at Splendid Spoon).

WHAT DO YOU DO ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS?

She’s Not Sorry is a side hustle for me, so the days are long! Early mornings and post-work evenings are filled with emails, story writing and editing, outreach, and connecting with as many people  as we can. In regular working hours, I write a lot of words for Splendid Spoon and grow their community. The one 24/7 constant is the group message I have with my She’s Not Sorry co-creators: it never stops pinging with updates, ideas, and ramblings.

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO DO WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD AND WHAT CHANGED?

I wanted to be an author. Michael Morpurgo came and spoke at my school about his books and life. He said every day he wrote, he woke up at 7, made hot chocolate, and went to his home office to write in his pyjamas. I thought that sounded magical. Confidence failed me. I’m naturally shy and introverted: making my voice heard has never been my strong point. But maybe I’m not too late.

WHAT ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU HAVE?

BA degree in French and Spanish from Cambridge University.

WHAT’S THE BEST CAREER ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

Treat your career like an adventure. Never be afraid to move on.

WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL AND WHY?

I try to follow my own path otherwise I easily get caught up in the comparison game. I find that feeding off the energy and creativity of other women is what lifts me to better and stronger places.

WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT YOUR CURRENT WORKING ENVIRONMENT?

Working with my co-founders, Alex and Tracy, who bring all the energy, excitement, and passion to every moment. We don’t have an office so we normally meet at one of our apartments. When the three of us sit down and start collaborating, it feels like we’ve come home.

WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT YOUR DAILY WORK ROUTINE IF YOU COULD?

More time for She’s Not Sorry! There’s not enough hours in the day (and I run out of energy too fast!).

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF PROFESSIONALLY IN FIVE YEARS’ TIME?

More writing, more connecting, with She’s Not Sorry as a full-time project.

DO YOU FEEL YOU CAN BE THE SAME PERSON AT WORK AND IN PRIVATE?

I’m an introvert so building a business doesn’t always come easily: I have to bring out my noisiest, most opinionated, boldest self. It can be exhausting, and I’m always grateful for the quiet, heads-down work moments that follow every meeting.

WHERE AND IN WHAT ROLES ARE WOMEN IN THE LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE AT YOUR COMPANY?

We’re all women, with different strengths, working on the same level.

DOES DIVERSITY MATTER TO YOU?

Of course. If there’s no diversity, there’s nothing to hear.

HOW GOOD IS YOUR WORK LIFE BALANCE?

I’m pretty good at switching off, but life is pretty work-filled at the moment. If you’re chasing a dream as a side-hustle, non-work-life gets put on the back burner!

WHAT QUALITIES DOES BEING IN YOUR ROLE NECESSITATE?

A love of connecting with people, wanting to listen to other’s voices, and a way with words.

ANY FINAL COMMENTS?

We’d love to hear the stories of the Ladies-who-Launch network. We’re so grateful for this platform, and want to share your voices and welcome you into our community!
